Team Unity: Commitment

Unity

When you consider what it takes for a team to be successful, trust is of utmost importance. If team members don’t trust each other, nothing can be accomplished. So what does it take for a team to be unified enough to trust each other.

A team can only be successful if each team member is officially invested in the team. It is completely possible for team members to be invested in a team, but superficially. Without an official commitment from team members, it is impossible for a team to be completely unified. Often times when team members are not committed, they put themselves before the team.

That brings me to my next point. Team members must be committed to team success, not personal success. As soon as team members are in a team for personal gain, the team no longer is working together, but each person for themselves. Team leaders must identify and incorporate each person into the team and make them a team player, not a “me” player.

It is important that team members each have a role and are officially committed, not superficially committed to the team. Team unity can either make or break a team, and the trust that is formed through team unity is immeasurable.
